Diane Goodman Continues Conversation on Selecting Professional Speakers

Monday June 11, 2007

Diane Goodman, The Goodman Speakers Bureau, Inc. In Part 2 of my conversation with Diane Goodman, president of The Goodman Speakers Bureau in Windsor, CT, Diane shares more of her thoughts and experiences about hiring a professional speaker.

Insights include:

  • The most common types of speakers requested include motivational, team building, adventurer, leadership and generational speakers.

  • Entertainers are hired to lighten content-heavy meetings.

  • Organizations are blending the types of speakers they use based on the purpose of the meeting.

  • Incentive meetings tend to incorporate celebrities to create an "unforgettable" experience for attendees.

Diane also discussed some deatils related to speaker fees with me, and my main take away from that conversation was that it's always best to stay focused on the basics: by understanding the objective of the meeting up front, event planners will make the right speaker selection, whether it's a professional speaker, expert or celebrity.
