Etiquette Mistakes at the Company Holiday Party

Friday November 23, 2007

Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the holiday party season, and that means it’s time for people to now prepare for attending their employer’s annual company holiday party. And although these are festive occasions, it’s important for such guests to remember that this isn’t a night (or afternoon) out on the town.

With 15% of employers indicating that inappropriate employee behavior in the past has impacted an individual’s career growth, perhaps we can interpret this message this way: about as many as 1 out of every 10 parties this year may have someone who decides that they will take it upon themselves to get the party started...

And while some inappropriate behaviors aren’t as obvious as the person who chooses to wear a lamp shade, party guests should be aware that etiquette mistakes could follow them long after the celebration ends.

Consider avoiding these etiquette mistakes at the company holiday party that could affect your professional reputation:

  • Excessive drinking.
  • Excessive eating.
  • Excessive talking.
  • Excessive complaining.
  • Excessive absence.
  • Excessive attire.
  • Excessive guests.
