Event Planner Tip: Eliminate Red Wine Stains by Pouring White Wine Directly On It Before It Dries
I'm in Madrid this week to attend Fitur, a conference targeted to event and meeting planners who are interested in Spain destinations for their programs. I'll share more with you about that soon, but I thought it would be a great idea to share a suggestion that I learned about what to do when red wine spilling on clothing.
While attending a pretour of Madrid (more on that as well later), one of the event planners in the group had spilled red wine on himself. Immediate suggestions often include club soda or a lot of hot water as a temporary solution. However, a colleague from the UK immediately ordered some white wine and had it poured directly on the red wine stain.
Apparently, white wine counteracts the staining effects of red wine. Now, I can't guarantee this suggestion, but find it quite interesting, as the stain did fade and the gentleman's paints dried without a stain.
I wish I knew this before my flight overseas. One of the flight attendants knocked over a glass of red wine that ended up staining the pant leg of a beige pair of pants. The flight didn't have club soda on board, so we relied on a lot of hot water.
Event planners are expected sometimes to be miracle workers when things don't always go well. So this makes me think: what other great ideas do event planners need to keep in the back of their mind and use during our event receptions and other programs -- whether it's a social event or a business conference?
Please feel free to post some of your suggestions that have worked in different situations. I'd like to collect a series of suggestions and post an article about this.
