Add a Boost to Your Afternoon Meetings

By , About.com GuideAugust 27, 2012

Afternoon MeetingsWe all know the sluggish feeling that tends to creep in after the lunch hour. It is hard to find enough motivation to tackle the pile of work on your desk when all you feel like doing is taking a nap! Somehow though we all manage to inspire ourselves and get through those long afternoons.

It is safe to assume that many of our meeting attendees feel this same way after lunch, and this is where we as planners should try to help. Make an effort to come up with creative ways to inject fun into your afternoon meetings. You can begin these events with a group project to get everyone moving, or start the afternoon off with a Q&A session to add some unpredictability. You can even bribe your attendees to stay focused with delicious snacks.

Not every meeting features edge-of-your-seat material that commands attention. Let's face it; some things are just naturally boring! But that doesn't mean the meeting has to be dull. Don't be afraid to shake things up a bit to get the creative juices flowing in the room. When it comes down to it, a subtle boost to the senses will help your group accomplish more!

As an AV provider for many meetings i always get a good laugh at watching all the nodding heads after lunch from my position in the back of the room.
On a more serious note the snacks mentioned in this article are a great idea. also right after lunch you might not want to have your speaker covering heavy material. keep it light and build up to the good stuff.
