One + is the new magazine produced by Meeting Professionals International (MPI) for meeting and event professionals. The first edition was mailed to members in August, 2008, and it replaces MPI’s The Meeting Professional.
The decision to create the new magazine was so that it may help MPI members to elevate professional knowledge and industry resources, according to Bruce MacMillan, president and CEO of MPI, Dallas. MacMillan announced One + at the MPI World Education Congress (WEC) in Las Vegas, August, 2008.
The magazine is distributed globally to MPI’s 24,000 members. It focuses on how meetings and events contribute to organizations all around the world, and articles reflect professional issues and advanced best practices.
When looking to recreate the magazine, MPI members and partners emphasized the importance of keeping the focus of the magazine on the meeting and event professional, MacMillan explained.
“One” represents the member; the “+” represents the human connection to ideas, relationships and marketplaces.
In its initial issue, MacMillan explained the new approach. “For starters, because human connections are all about, well, humans. We've reached out to a new group of contributors for powerful knowledge and experience stories who have connections beyond our community in order to offer elevated, even provocative, perspectives and insights on issues and opportunities affecting our space.”
The magazine has taken on a new modern design. And its objective is to address critical topics that impact the daily lives of meeting and event planners. More information may be found at MPI.
