The unique beauty of the current season is a great start for a spectacular wedding theme.  Wedding decorations, including the flowers, table coverings and lighting effects, can all be combined to create a wedding theme that is truly magical.

Gerry Rogers and Rebecca Henry of Petal's Edge Floral Design created a "winter wonderland" for this New Year's Eve wedding at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel in Washington, DC.  Every designer element came together to create an effect that was wintry, yet warm.

Upon arrival, guests were greeted at the escort table by a striking floral arrangement of curly willow branches, silver-budded pussy willow branches, white larkspur, white dendrobium orchids, feathery white astilbe, and white stock accented with light blue delphinium, and hints of juniper.  Set in a tall glass trumpet vase and accented with warm candlelight from a collection of votives, the display provided a dramatic first impression.

The winter wedding theme continued in the hotel ballroom, with tables accented with one of three separate, yet complementary designs.  One design featured ivory pillar candles of varying heights, nested in a beed of juniper greens with natural icy blue berries.  The second featured a textural mix of ivory roses, white stock, white astilbe, white tulips and white narcissus accented with blue muscari and juniper in a frosted cylinder vase.  The final design, providing height and movement to the room, featured a tall glass cylinder vase with a mix of white curly willow and birch branches accented with silver glitter-coated branches.  White dendrobium orchids were intertwined within and along the length of the branches. The base of the vase was ringed by a wreath of flowers in wintry whites, blues and greens.

Additional warmth was provided through the strategic use of classic gold damask linens and gold Chiavari chairs.  Creative lighting effects, including pin spots on the centerpieces and soft amber uplights along the walls, made the most of a creative, seasonal and, most importantly, beautiful wedding theme.
